Costumes, sweets and the unexpected! These are the best elements for a marriage proposal. If you and your partner love the fun and spooky festivities around Halloween, a proposal just might be the best unexpected surprise. If you’re thinking of proposing on Halloween, read on for our tips!

Find the perfect location

During Halloween, you can find lots of romantic and picturesque spots: historic mansions tend to have public events, forests and fields are decorated with lights and lanterns, and pumpkin patches and corn mazes are everywhere! Nature helps out by decorating with fall colors.

Whether you opt for dressing up for a party or event or put together a private date, you can find the perfect spot.

Consider using your costume as part of the proposal

You could suggest a romantic couple’s costume that will make for awesome proposal pictures. (Beauty and the Beast? Anthony and Cleopatra? Taylor and Travis?)  Or, you could surprise her somewhere unexpected by showing up in disguise! Maybe as Prince Charming!

Carve a pumpkin

Challenge her to a pumpkin carving contest and carve “will you marry me” into yours. Or have someone set your proposal pumpkin on your front door step while you’re out on a date (make sure the pumpkin is well lit so she’ll see it when you both arrive home!).

Plan a romantic Halloween party

A great way to get her friends and family in on the proposal without her knowing is to plan a Halloween party. She won’t suspect a thing even though everyone’s wearing romantic outfits and taking pictures!

Go Trick or Treating

Give someone you trust the ring and have them show up to trick or treat at your house (in disguised costume, of course). Bonus points if it’s her parents! When she answers the door to hand them candy, they’ll hand her the ring!

Or, if you’re bringing her kids or nieces and nephews trick or treating, arrange to visit a house or business where the person you trust with the ring answers the door and gives her the ring as a treat!
