How the Birthstone Collection Works

Every piece in the Birthstone Collection pairs a colorful center stone with a frame of sparkling natural diamonds, all set in bright 14k white gold. You choose from two halo styles, and both come as pendant necklaces and matching stud earrings so you can build a set or keep it simple.

Classic halo versus scallop halo

Our classic halo features a more substantial center stone ringed by diamonds for a bold, eye-catching look. The scallop halo takes a softer, more delicate approach, with a smaller center stone and a lacy diamond border. Neither is more “correct” than the other, so we love helping guests decide based on the wearer’s personal style.

A few of the stones are offered in both genuine and lab-created versions, and one is lab-created only. We will always tell you exactly which is which, so you can choose with confidence.

How to Choose a Birthstone Piece

01

WHOSE MONTH

Your own, a partner’s, a child’s. The stone is the message, so settle this before anything about the setting.

02

HALO STYLE

Classic reads bold and carries a larger center stone; scallop is lacier and quieter. It is the single biggest change to how the piece wears.

03

NECKLACE OR STUDS

Pendants sit close and layer easily with what she already wears. Studs are the everyday option that never has to come off.

Winter and Spring Birthstones

The first half of the year carries some of the richest colors in the collection. January brings deep red garnet, February glows with purple amethyst, and March offers a cool splash of genuine sky blue topaz. April is represented by brilliant white topaz, a lovely diamond-like sparkle, while May features emerald in your choice of genuine or lab-created, and June showcases lab-created alexandrite, prized for the way its color shifts in different light.

Here is how the opening of the calendar looks as finished pieces, across the halo styles and the forms the collection comes in.

A Meaningful Gift

What makes birthstone jewelry so special is how personal it feels. A mom might wear the birthstones of each of her children, a partner might choose your birth month to keep you close, and a grandparent might treasure a piece that represents a new grandbaby. If you are shopping for the special women in your life, our holiday jewelry gift guide for mom is a wonderful place to start.

Birthstones are also an easy way to add a pop of color to a jewelry wardrobe that leans mostly toward diamonds. If you want ideas for layering in these hues, take a look at how to add colored gemstones to your jewelry style. Prefer to see the stones in person? You can book an appointment and one of our jewelry experts will walk you through every option.

The Robbins Brothers Difference

Colored stones are harder to buy sight unseen than diamonds are, because saturation is the whole point and no two photographs render it the same way.

  • We name the origin every time. Genuine or lab-created is on the label and in the conversation, never something you have to work out for yourself.
  • See the color under real light. Amethyst and sapphire in particular shift between showroom lighting and daylight, and our consultants will show you both before you commit.
  • Our master jeweler works in house. Family pieces carrying several birthstones are custom work by definition, and the in-house design studio is where they get built.
  • Cleaning and inspection whenever you stop in. Colored gemstones want gentler care than diamonds, and keeping them bright is part of what we do for you afterward.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the birthstones for each month?

In our collection, January is garnet, February is amethyst, March is sky blue topaz, April is white topaz, May is emerald, June is alexandrite, July is ruby, August is peridot, September is blue sapphire, October is pink sapphire, November is citrine, and December is london blue topaz. If you are not sure which stone belongs to your loved one, we are always happy to help you match the month.

What is the difference between the classic halo and scallop halo styles?

Both come as necklaces and earrings, so the decision is about proportion rather than availability. If the wearer layers necklaces or keeps a pair of studs in daily, the scallop sits lighter against everything else. If the piece is meant to be the one that gets noticed, the classic carries more presence. We can set the two next to each other so the difference in scale is obvious.

Are the birthstones natural or lab-created?

It depends on the stone. Several birthstones, including emerald, ruby, and sapphire, are offered in both genuine and lab-created versions, and alexandrite is lab-created. Lab-created stones share the same look and durability as their natural counterparts, and we will always tell you exactly which you are choosing.

Is birthstone jewelry a good personalized gift?

It is one of our favorite gifts to give, because it turns a birthday into something wearable and lasting. A birthstone piece feels thoughtful and one-of-a-kind, whether you choose the recipient’s own month or a month that is meaningful to them, such as a child’s or a partner’s.

Can I mix multiple birthstones in one piece?

Family pieces that combine several birthstones are a beautiful way to celebrate loved ones together. While the collection is built around single-stone designs, our master jeweler can help you create a custom piece that brings multiple birthstones into one meaningful design. Visit any of our showrooms across California, Arizona, Texas, and Washington to talk it through.

Should I choose a necklace or earrings?

Both are lovely, so it often comes down to how the recipient likes to wear jewelry. Pendant necklaces sit close to the heart and are easy to layer, while stud earrings add a quiet sparkle for everyday wear. Many guests choose to gift the pair so the set can be worn together.

How do I care for birthstone jewelry?

Colored gemstones stay their brightest with gentle cleaning and occasional professional check-ups. We are happy to clean and inspect your pieces when you stop by, and our team can share simple at-home care tips so your birthstone jewelry keeps its sparkle for years.

Can I design a custom birthstone piece?

Absolutely. Our master jeweler can help you design something one-of-a-kind, from a family birthstone pendant to a personalized set. Book an appointment and we will guide you through stones, metals, and settings from start to finish.
