Six Ways To Celebrate A Socially Distant Anniversary
While some stay-at-home restrictions have been lifted, not everyone is going to feel comfortable venturing out, especially those who are higher risk. But if there’s one thing that this pandemic has collectively taught us, it’s that with a little creativity, we can celebrate major milestones without even having to leave the house.
If your wedding anniversary is on the horizon, and you plan on commemorating the occasion at home, here are six ways to make the day feel fun and festive.
- Ring in the New Year – Usher in another year of marriage with some new bling. You might consider starting, or adding to, your ring stack with a new pave or traditional band. Or you might decide to upgrade your center engagement ring stone—perhaps with a bigger diamond or by changing the gem to another cut or type. Rings are the ultimate symbol of your union, besides your love for each other, and having something new on your fingers could alleviate some of the ho-hum-ness of these strange times. (Come on, who doesn’t get excited by something sparkly?)
- Make it a Memorable Morning – Start the day off right with a flower delivery (bonus points if you choose blooms from your wedding day) and breakfast. A number of cafes are offering delivery and pickup—choose your favorite coffee shop or brunch joint and enjoy a delicious meal that neither of you had to cook. No judgment if you decide to crawl back into bed afterward for an equally delicious post-nosh nap.
- Dress Up for Date Night In – Throw on your best dress and suit and either whip up a gourmet meal for two or order one in. Make a playlist in advance featuring songs from every stage of your relationship, especially your big day, and dance in your living room. Sure, it may feel strange at first but having a romantic dance party is going to be far more memorable than your previous anniversaries when you simply went out for dinner. (Ah, remember those times?) If you’re feeling extra inspired, wear your white dress and really go all out. No one’s watching!
- Throw Yourselves a Zoom Party – If you’re marking a milestone anniversary and originally planned to celebrate with family and friends, take a tip from all of the couples hosting virtual weddings these days and throw a party in cyberspace. Send out an invitation, complete with an easy cocktail recipe, and relish the experience of everyone toasting to you right in their own homes. The best part? When you’re feeling ready to celebrate privately, you can easily say your goodbyes and—poof!—it’s just the two of you again.
- Bake Your Cake – If you’re baking show aficionados, why not try to recreate your wedding cake, or whatever dessert you had on your big day? There’s nothing like a sweet challenge to bring a couple closer together. And, no matter how your creation looks in the end, it will still probably taste fantastic. You can even feed it to each other to recreate a big day-tradition.
- Capture The Moment – Many couples put off making a wedding album or printing and displaying wedding-day photos. For some reason, some of us lose momentum on this task after all of that anticipation and planning of the big day. But now that you’re home and may have some time on your hands, come together and choose your favorite photos from your wedding day. You’ll get to reminisce about the romantic, fun and awkward memories from the day and remember all of your friends and family at the same time. We could all use a healthy dose of nostalgia right about now anyway.
