Staying connected to your partner is crucial for maintaining a healthy relationship—especially if you have crazy busy schedules. You want each other to feel loved and appreciated, even when you’re not together.
Luckily, there are a number of ways to show your sweetie you care, and even give your relationship a major boost, when you’re both toiling away at your respective daily grinds. Here are some fun ideas to KIT while you’re at work.
Chat Throughout the Day
If your company’s Internet restrictions (or lack thereof) allow, keep a chat window open during the day so you can continually converse with your partner about the office goings ons, your workplace highs and lows, and even what you want to have for dinner that evening. Think of chatting like a virtual tether that keeps you connected to each other.
Send a Virtual Squeeze (or Smooch)
Instead of just a regular text (or emoji), snap a pic or video of yourself giving your significant other some love—having a visual will give your partner an instant zap of happiness from just seeing your face.
Pack Each Other Lunch Notes
Sneak a sweet note into your partner’s lunch box or briefcase that he or she can find at some point during the day. You can make this a special one-time thing or write notes daily—either way, these notes will be appreciated and make you feel more connected to each other.
Send Coffee
Starbucks, and certainly some local coffee chains, too, allow you to purchase drinks online and have them waiting for you (or your significant other, in this case) at the counter. Order your main squeeze’s favorite beverage, then text or chat them to let them know it’s ready. Time it around when your partner usually gets an afternoon pick-me-up and they’ll be stoked that you remembered their to-go order—and feel giddy at your thoughtfulness.
Play a Game
On your breaks, engage in some friendly competition by playing Clash of Clans, HQ, Words with Friends or whatever smartphone game you both love to compete in together. This way, you’ll get to spend time doing something fun with each other during the day and you’ll each also get some much-needed downtime during your busy workday. (Just don’t play at your desk while you’re on the clock or during meetings—that definitely won’t impress your boss!)
Listen to the Same Podcast
If time crunches simply don’t allow you to stay connected in the aforementioned ways, commit to listening to the same podcast (or same music station) while you each work in your respective offices. This way, you’ll have something to dish about when you come home later, like the fun facts you learned or the great new song you really enjoyed hearing.
Hit the Gym Together Post-Work
Another option for staying connected is having plans after work to look forward to. You might take a yoga class together, run next to each other on the treadmills—whatever you like to do to get your blood pumping. If working out just isn’t your thing, having a ritual such as talking a walk or having a post-work cocktail in your backyard will give you some extra motivation as you go through your day.
