Holiday Gift Ideas For Newlyweds

Spending your first holiday season as a married couple is beyond special. You’ll create new traditions, devote time to each other’s families and set a foundation for all of the wonderful celebrations to come.

Deciding what to get each other for this first holiday as husband and wife (or wife and wife, or husband and husband!) can be tough. Unlike anniversaries—where you can get some guidance with themes like paper, cotton and so on—there are no traditional presents for newlywed seasonal gifting. So, to help get your brainstorm going, here are five meaningful ideas to consider.

  • Jewelry – You can’t go wrong with something shiny, right? Whether you choose earrings that coordinate with her engagement ring or a tasteful tie clip made of the same material as his wedding band, the gift of an accessory is always an appropriate gesture. Everyone loves a little velvet-lined box, after all.
  • Something special for your home – Even if you lived together before marriage, your home is now a space you share as man and wife. Commemorate that fact by investing in a piece of artwork you both will really love; or choose some of your favorite wedding photos and have them professionally printed and framed. Even a special piece of furniture or meaningful décor could make a great gift and signify this unique time in your relationship.
  • Matching cozy duds – Nothing says “old married couple” like coordinating robes, pajamas or slippers. Yes, the idea may be kind of cheesy but having complementary comfortable clothes to wear when you’re Netflix-and-chilling together is beyond cute.
  • Couples massage – Instead of exchanging wrapped presents, go for giving each other an unforgettable experience. Especially if you’ve never experienced one before, a couples massage is a great gift you can enjoy on multiple levels. The romance factor is huge, plus you’ll be able to work out the kinks and the inevitable stress that the end of the year brings. Choose a local resort or spa that you’ve always wanted to check out and make a luxurious day of it.
  • A weekend getaway – For a longer experiential present, choose a destination you can visit for a long weekend together. This way, you’re giving the gift of each other’s time and you’ll be making memories during this exciting early phase of your marriage—no doubt you’ll look back at this period fondly when you’re celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary. A special trip will only make this time more treasured.
