Romantic Ways To Get Into Holiday Spirit
The holidays are a time to spread cheer and spend time with loved ones. And while this season can be filled with obligations and to-do lists, it’s also an ideal time for romance. (Really!) Amid the work parties and family functions, you and your partner can find ways to connect and have a blast together, making the holidays even more special.
Here are five ways you can use the spirit of the season to bring a little romance into your partnership—and have fun in the process.
Create something together
Whether it’s making hot chocolate or building a snowman, actually getting your hands dirty, so to speak, can be a special way to enjoy this season. You’ll have fun during the process and you’ll form lasting memories together. Even better if you choose to do something you’ve both never done before—studies show that having new experiences together can rekindle those early-relationship feelings and add some spice into your relationship.
Exchange meaningful gifts
Make gift-giving and gift-getting less about the items themselves and more about expressing your love to each other. Perhaps fill each other’s stockings with inexpensive, sweet things you know you’ll love, like favorite candies, bath products, gift cards to the coffee shop you go to often, and so on. Showing that you put serious thought into even just small tokens will mean so much. And don’t forget a heartfelt card. Most of us forget to express our deepest feelings throughout the year. The holidays are a great time to jot down some meaningful words for each other.
Start a tradition
Make the holidays truly yours by choosing a new ritual that you can follow. It could be certain songs you play on Christmas morning, a family latke recipe you can dust off for Hanukkah; or a visit to a special holiday-esque place from a cut-down-your-own-tree lot to a cozy weekend destination. You could even just have a friendly snowball fight, if that sounds like your thing. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll have something special that you do together during the holidays.
Lend your time to those in need
Giving to others feels good, and it truly benefits those on the receiving end of your service. While serving food or wrapping gifts for those in need may not sound romantic at first, doing something for other people will get you both in the spirit of the season. Plus, you’ll have a newfound respect for each other for dedicating your time to a worthy cause.
Leave room for spontaneity
The holidays can get hectic so one of the best ways to celebrate with your partner is to make sure you have enough free time for spur-of-the-moment activities. Perhaps you spend a free Saturday afternoon ice skating, or a Thursday night walking down your town’s main drag to check out the shops’ lights and decorations. Or maybe you’ll just have more opportunities to chill together in your PJs eating gingerbread cookies. No matter what, having downtime will make the holidays seem way less stressful and more fun as a result.
