Wedding Gift Ideas For Each Other

While most of us know that it’s customary for guests to bring gifts to your nuptials, it’s a lesser known tradition that the bride and groom exchange presents on their wedding day as well.

These gifts are not as much about lavishness as they are about meaning: You want to choose something to mark the occasion that can be cherished for years to come. And you may even decide to go in on a gift—something you’ll pick out together—to honor your new commitment as husband and wife.

Here are five ideas to get your brainstorm started.

  1. Love letters – Rather than purchasing presents, you may choose to write each other heartfelt notes that you can each read while you’re getting ready on your wedding day. This is an especially touching idea if you’re not planning on seeing each other until the ceremony—that way, you can connect on an emotional level before the big moment without breaking tradition.
  2. A honeymoon adventure – Whether you’d prefer an excursion like scuba diving or a day of relaxing with a spa day for two, an ideal wedding gift would be an experience you can share together during your honeymoon. You may decide to select something together or surprise each other with special days you’ve each planned once you’re on vacation.
  3. A piece of art – Consider christening your home with a painting or other form of artwork that can signify this moment in your lives. Websites like Etsy, AHALife and One Kings Lane have great selections from talented artists, or you might visit a local gallery or art show to find something that really moves you.
  4. Special accessories – You’re already going to be purchasing wedding rings of course, but there’s always room for more bling in your life, right? Consider buying coordinating watches that you can have engraved, or items you can each wear on your wedding day, like a tie bar or cufflinks for him and a bracelet or earrings for her.
  5. An interactive class – Sign up for a fun experience to enjoy as newlyweds. You might enroll in a cooking class, trapeze or climbing lessons or even a language course at your local community college. Doing something new together will further solidify your bond as husband and wife and provide memories that will last a lifetime.
