With New Year’s Eve coming up, I decided that I should probably start thinking about what New Year Resolutions I should pick up. After taking a look at some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, I realized… this isn’t really me. Take a look:
- Spend more time with family and friends.
- Get fit.
- Eat less fatty food.
- Quit smoking.
- Enjoy life more.
- Quit drinking.
- Get out of debt.
- Learn something new.
- Help others.
- Get organized.
I quickly realized that so many people make these types of resolutions that are too open ended. They’re not specific enough to feel really accomplished and find an end goal, which can really derail those resolutions by Valentine’s Day. I quickly buckled down and decided to make some seriously specific goals. So here are my few, but mighty resolutions:
1. Spend less time on the phone: No, I don’t spend hours on it like a chatty-cathy, but with the new modern smartphones, I find myself texting, surfing the web, checking emails and playing another frustrating level of Candy Crush Saga. Instead, I want to be enjoying the real world. Look lovingly into my fiance’s eyes? Sure, the emails can wait!
2. Start making lists: I tend to trust my brain a little too much sometimes. “I’ll totally remember these important to-do’s in my head tomorrow morning!” “There’s no way I’ll forget to buy this at the store!” Oh brain, how you have been overestimated… It only takes a couple of minutes to jot these things down, and it’ll probably help me save on the gas on another trip to the grocery store, too! And hey, look at this, I’m already starting!
3. Eat less processed food: Over the years, I’ve become pretty health-conscious, but I think it’s more important to focus on REAL food, rather than healthy food. Real food is healthy! Fresh vegetables, fresh meat, real, true ingredients. One of my main goals this year is to eat less food that have ingredients that I can’t pronounce! Sure, I can eat hamburgers, bacon, steak, ice cream… (in moderation!) as long as they’re all natural, real, whole ingredients! It’s much less daunting than cutting out ALL delicious – er, fatty food!
