New Year’s Resolutions for Couples

Another year passes and another resolution bites the dust. It’s not your fault, resolutions are hard. No one wants to drink nothing but green juice for three months on their own! Well now you don’t have to, just make this year’s resolution a couples resolution. Maybe it’s your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, neighbor’s cat? Either way it’s time to team up and tackle New Year’s resolutions like a boss.

Consider the following couples resolutions as a starting point and try not to go overboard. If you didn’t become the Greek God you were hoping for this last year, it’s a pretty good chance Everest is not happening in 2015.

Take a walk
Getting in shape this New Year doesn’t mean you need to run 10 plus miles every day before 6am. Keep it simple and take a walk with your person. Walking is great for your heart and is a realistic starting point. For those like me who go to the gym once, max out, get hurt and never go back, I highly recommend walking and talking with someone to help keep you accountable.

Learn Something New
“Hola! Mi nombre es Mark” and that’s about all the Spanish I learned last year. Becoming bilingual may not be high on your list, but with the growing popularity of Pinterest, it’s easy to find a DIY project that suits you and your person’s lifestyle.

Eat Healthier
Start small. Try trading Taco Tuesdays for Froyo Fridays. You still get a night out, minus the sugar filled Presidente Margaritas and street tacos.

See Something
The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, and the Eifel Tower come to mind, but in the event you can’t be as adventurous, find something of wonder in your state. As a SoCal native I’ve come to the realization that I’ve skipped out on all the tourist attractions my state has to offer. Just because it’s popular for tourists doesn’t mean it’s not fun. Take a day and become tourists for your own city. Who knows, you may appreciate home a little more, or just confirm that it’s time to SEE SOMETHING.

So come this New Year don’t do it alone, it’s about making resolutions that are realistic and enjoyable for the two of you. Whether it’s health you’d like to improve, a project you’d like to start or an adventure you seek, having that special someone by your side will make all the difference.
