Valentine’s Wish List – Hers And His

With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s a great time to check in with your partner to make plans to celebrate your relationship and ensure you’re both on the same page. Of course, mates don’t always have the same ideas and expectations for Valentine’s Day (or any holiday!). Having a tough time agreeing on what to do this year? Write down your personal wish list and ask your partner to do the same. Then compare each list and work on a compromise you’ll both enjoy. Here’s a look at my personal wish list versus my husband’s list and how we ultimately decided to celebrate the day together.

My Wish List

  1. A weekend getaway. With a busy life and family, it’s tough to make time to get away alone. Regardless of whether the destination is near or far, any change of scenery, even for a weekend, is definitely a welcome retreat.
  2. Forget the red roses; a pretty little bouquet is always a lovely way to brighten up the house and show he cares.
  3. Making dinner together. We always enjoy spending an evening sharing a bottle of wine and making a new recipe together.
  4. A spa day. Nothing’s more relaxing than a day at the spa, whether it’s getting a massage, facial, getting your nails done, or all of the above. If he wants to come along for a massage, perfect. Otherwise, he’ll always score major points treating me to a day of pampering.
  5. A night out with the girls. It’s always fun to get away for dinner and drinks with my friends while he has a date with our daughter for the evening.

His Wish List

  1. A trip to the lake together. He enjoys getting away to the lake for some outdoor fun and relaxation.
  2. Tickets to a sporting event. His idea of a great gift is tickets to see his favorite team play ball.
  3. A brewery tour. As a beer lover, he’d love to tour a local craft beer brewery for the day and taste their latest creations.
  4. A couple’s massage. Who wouldn’t love a little R&R? It’s even better if you can both relax together.
  5. A day of golf with friends. He loves to unwind after a long work week by golfing with his friends on a nice day.

After reviewing our lists, we discovered that we actually have pretty similar ideas for Valentine’s Day. We both would really enjoy a trip away, so we agreed to plan a weekend getaway as soon as possible. We also made plans to get a couple’s massage and gift each other a kid-free day or night out with our respective friends. For Valentine’s Day itself, we have a few gifts in mind for each other, but we’ve decided to keep those a surprise.

What are some of your Valentine’s plans and how does it compare to what your mate wants? I’m curious to know.
