I was delighted to meet up with one of the wedding industry’s most sought after photographers, Katie Clark, who’s celebrating 20 years in the business this year! This woman is full of knowledge and so much fun too. If you’re about to get engaged and need an AMAZING photographer to capture the moment, be sure Katie is on your must-contact list. Besides, her beautiful KCP Studios is located in one of my favorite cities in the world…Laguna Beach! Ahhh. (Yep, I just love being near the water. Hint, hint to my future hubby.)
Katie Clark’s Tips for Planning Your Perfect Proposal
1) Think about what can make your proposal unique, memorable and personal for both of you.
2) Decide if it’s more meaningful to propose in an intimate romantic setting with just the two of you, or in a small group with family and friends. The other extreme is a public proposal in front of a large crowd.
3) People are very intuitive around major events so hiding something like a proposal can be a difficult feat. It’s all about the element of surprise, so try to catch your partner off guard. We’ve heard so many say they knew the proposal was coming due to odd behavior, so try to stay calm and be as normal as possible in the days before the big event.
4) You don’t have to break the bank to give a good proposal. Creativity is the key. Think about some of your partner’s favorite places to go, or a favorite activity, and put some thought into the delivery of the question.
5) After your proposal is accepted be ready to celebrate immediately. Champagne, flowers, and loved ones hiding in the wings or on the phone will enhance the fanfare.
6) Most importantly, have a video or still camera available to document this momentous event. Think in advance about who you can give a camera to that will jump in to shoot the moment as it unfolds. Try to have some lighting or flash if it is dark so you can see your loved one’s expression on camera. If you would like to use the photos or video to share the big news, or play at your wedding, hire a professional. You will be glad you did when everyone wants to see how this joyous event unfolded and you can relive the moment for years to come.
