So here at Robbins Brothers, we have an annual tradition of compiling a list of Do’s and Don’ts for Single Girls To Surviving The Holidays, but this year we thought we’d give it a fresh spin. Instead of a fresh set of tips on how to survive being single, we thought we’d give you some tips on how to thrive. This doesn’t only apply to single girls, either. Here are some great ideas on how any girl, married, in a relationship or single can make the best during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
1. Jump start that Holiday Resolution! You might already have some New Year’s Resolutions in mind, so why wait until January to start on it? Did you want to pick up your scrap-booking again? Or learn to yarn or crochet? Been meaning to visit a new bar each week with some friends to start expanding your usual stomping grounds (The Robbins Brothers Team does not condone alcohol abuse, we just support responsible adult social fun)? Or have you been intending on really taking advantage of your Netflix account instead of letting your lonely rental of Bride Wars (that you’ve had for like, 3 months) sit on your BluRay player, collecting dust? Whatever it is, start on it now, and when January rolls around, you’ll have no problem keeping it up.
2. Speaking of Resolutions, one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions is hitting the gym again. Your one week break from working it out turned into..well, a couple of months. Don’t worry about the past, you can do something TODAY! Why wait until January 1st, when the gyms will be packed with Resolutioners? Parking lot jams and waiting for machines to free up? Yeah, you know that happens every January. Plus, while a few others might be gaining an extra 5 during the holidays, you can secretly be proud knowing that you’ve lost 5! Working it out like a beast and sweating it out can really spike your confidence level and your overall health. So go run a mile or two! You’ll feel like a champ.
3. You know those really depressing ASPCA commercials that Sarah McLachlin is in? No? You don’t? See it here and don’t forget to grab a tissue. These commercials make me so sad and I always think, “Okay, I’m going to donate. Now. Okay, maybe after the show. Or tomorrow.” No we’re not saying that that commercial is going to make you feel better, but donating money or time to a charity will give you a heart of gold. We know that Breast Cancer Awareness is in October, but that doesn’t mean it should be limited to just one month, amirite? Do you have a soft spot for a particular charity? Is helping out at a soup kitchen for the homeless tugging at your heart? On Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, there are sooo many people helping out that they just don’t know what to do with all the volunteers. Try going on a random Thursday night and you’ll be doing so much more for the shelter than you think. Sometimes, the greatest gift can’t be bought with money.
4. Enjoy the holidays. Take in the season, the Eggnog Latte, the yummy peppermint bark, the Christmas music (okay, I personally love Christmas music, but if you hate it, just ignore that part. We don’t want you going postal, now), the gift exchanges and all the brotherly love in the air. It takes much more energy to be unhappy than it does to be happy. One way to the road to blissfulness? Count your blessings. Instead of dwelling on what you are lacking, focus on what you do have. Sometimes we all get so busy with our everyday life, that we don’t realize just how lucky we are. We’ll just finish it up with one of our favorite gems from Pinterest.
Happy Holidays, ladies!
