Los Angeles – California chain jeweler Robbins Bros. scored major airtime in a major market earlier this month when it partnered with an L.A. television station to air five surprise marriage proposals in the lead-up to Valentine’s Day.
Robbins Brothers Media Services Manager Tracey Lyles told National Jeweler that for the past six years, the Azusa, Calif.-based retailer’s “Love Team” has partnered with CW Television Network affiliate KTLA-TV Channel 5 to feature one surprise marriage proposal around Valentine’s Day. This year, KTLA personality Gayle Anderson asked the jewelry chain to bump it up to five, and Robbins Brothers accepted.
Lyles said they then turned to their store associates to help recruit the couples, asking them to look for ring-buying would-be grooms who wouldn’t mind a live TV proposal. “Everyone in the company was so excited about ‘Proposal/Love Week’ with KTLA, and we found the couples pretty quickly,” she said.
Each of the five proposals, which occurred between Feb. 7 and 11, was a surprise, and each was unique. The proposal that aired on Monday took place at a daycare center, while Tuesday’s question-popping was done at a Robbins Brothers store, where the prospective fiancĂ©e thought she was coming for a gourmet breakfast.
Wednesday’s proposal happened at a Target, where the woman was an employee, and Thursday’s was done at a Roy’s restaurant. To cap off the week, Robbins Brothers threw in a little twist for Friday, featuring a woman surprising her boyfriend with a marriage proposal.
Robbins Brothers has uploaded the news segments featuring its surprise marriage proposals to its YouTube channel and added a montage of proposal clips to its Web site, RobbinsBrothers.com.
Robbins Brothers operates a total of 11 retail jewelry stores: three in Texas and eight in California.
