We all have “to do” lists as long as Santa’s naughty & nice list, so who has time to date? The answer should be we all do, even if we have to consciously put other things aside. Now I know this time of year is packed with parties, work, shopping, family and then more shopping, but taking a break to date is needed, especially if you want to make it through the holidays with your sanity. Whether you are starting out with a new relationship or have been married for many years, it is so important to take the time to fall in love (over and over again) and a date night is the perfect opportunity.
Can you think of a season that provides more opportunities to get close to the one you love? I can’t! With that said, here is my list of Five Festive Date Ideas.
Ice Skating – If you want to really have fun and laugh with each other, try gliding on ice wearing thin blades! The holidays already bring out the kid in all of us, so grab your best friend and head over to the local ice rink for an evening of holding hands and awkward falls into each other’s arms. For a few extra points, wrap up a pair of earmuffs and a scarf and present it to her before you arrive.
Watch a Classic Christmas Movie – This time of year is full of smells, tastes and sights that take you back to some of your happiest memories. Take advantage of this by creating the perfect trip back in time. You’ll need to rent her favorite classic movie to start and have popcorn and hot chocolate ready! Grab a blanket, light the tree and cuddle up on the couch for the perfect night.
Bake Holiday Cookies – Who doesn’t love Christmas cookies? Partner that with all the fun you will have making them together and this will be a date you will not soon forget! You will need to do a bit of shopping beforehand to get all the ingredients so don’t wait until the last moment for this one. If you really want to set the mood, call the family to get her favorite cookie recipe. Once your cookies are done, grab a plate of your hard work, a cup of milk and enjoy.
Sleigh Ride – Are you looking for a reason to cuddle and get close? If yes, you have to do this! You may need to do a bit of research to find a local mountain or area that offers sleigh rides but most areas are within a few hours of the perfect setting. Imagine a blanket of white on the ground, a light snowfall and the two of you wrapped warmly under a blanket. If you have to make this a day trip, look for a local Bed and Breakfast to enjoy overnight.
Volunteer – If you want to get to know more about each other or you really just want to have a good time while helping others, this date is perfect for you. Giving back to others during this busy season helps you remember all that you have to be thankful for, especially when you do it with the person you love. Set up a time at a local food bank or shelter. It is best to find the greatest needs within your community to ensure you make the most impact. Once you are done, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy each other and all the things that you have to be thankful for as a couple.
There are so many moments that come up during this time of year that lead to the perfect opportunities for dating, just remember to keep your eyes open for them! The cold weather will make almost any place perfect for holding hands and sharing warmth. Bottom line is to make time during this and every season to remember why you fell in love.
I would love to hear some of the best dates you have gone on during the holidays! Tell us all about it in the comments section. Until next time Happy Holidays and to all a happy date night!
