Once in a serious relationship a celebrity’s Q score goes through the roof. By the time TMZ leaks pictures of the couple kissing court side at a Lakers’ game, the stars have top jewelry designers around the world clamoring to create a one-of-a-kind engagement ring that will get picked up in every gossip publication and website. In a world where money is no object and the carat weight of the diamond is unlimited, it’s refreshing to see that these famous brides chose rings for reasons other than mere flash:

Natalie Portman’s Engagement Ring: This lovely Hollywood actress chose an eco-friendly engagement ring crafted with a vintage center diamond surrounded by a halo of conflict-free pave diamonds, set in recycled platinum. The look is red-carpet worthy, and rather than screaming bling, it gently evokes sophistication and class.

Kate Middleton’s Engagement Ring: The real-life princess bride had the option of choosing any diamond in the world, but for sentimental reasons she said “yes” to the sapphire and diamond ring that belonged to Prince William’s beloved mother, Princess Diana. Kate’s compassion for underprivileged children and her philanthropic work that is planned for her summer visit to Los Angeles shows the world that her beauty is more than skin deep.

Beyonce’s Engagement Ring and Tattoo: Underneath the 18-carat flawless emerald cut diamond, valued at $5 million, Beyonce has a simple tattoo on her left ring finger. The Roman numeral four that she and husband Jay-Z both had tattooed represents their wedding day and month (April 4) as well as their shared birthday month. This gorgeous singer/actress/designer really is just a sweet girl from Houston who loves her man.
