Ring Center customers Alan and Ashlee from Edmond, Oklahoma recently enjoyed the most romantic & action-filled engagement at Grand Lake. Alan excitedly shares his proposal story:
“For 4th of July weekend Ashlee’s family invited mine to go to Grand Lake to enjoy the weekend with them. Her mom, grandma and grandpa, aunt, uncle, cousins and her sister with my mom, dad and niece. Both sides of the family together. An opportunity I couldn’t resist!
The ring shows up Thursday one hour before my first shift at work. Dear God I was excited! So I go to work, and between shifts I go to the hotel lobby to grab some supplies for the big question. I go to my mom’s house and we work on a few things for the proposal and talk about it while listening to music. She worked on a couple of champagne flutes and I made a message in the bottle.
Thursday night rolls around, and it’s like a damn Tsunami outside!! I thought it was gonna ruin my whole weekend. I had planned to leave for her hometown right after my second shift, but it was too bad to drive in. Instead of risking it, I simply got up extra early the next day and drove up then. I get there and it’s just me and Ash. The ring is just a feet from her and she has no idea. Her mom comes home from work at noon, I pull her aside and show her the ring and ask for her blessing. She loves it, tells me how beautiful it is and grants me her permission.
We all pack up and drive to the lake. I chose the lake because it’s somewhere that holds such a dear place in her heart. She’s been going there for 11 years with her family, and the boat is somewhere she just brightens up on when she gets out on the lake. We meet her grandparents and my parents there. I sneak her grandparents into the trailer when Ash wasn’t looking to tell them. Her grandma cries and her grandpa tears up a bit as I ask for their blessing as well. They were so happy. Next thing you know, everyone knows but Ashlee.
The day goes on and we have dinner with lots of fun, laughing and drinking. Afterwards the girls (our moms, her mom’s friend, grandma and her aunt) went to decorate grandma’s pontoon with the decorations I prepared the day before, while I distracted Ashlee with putting up our tent together. We finish about the same time the ladies finish and come back when my mom says, “I forgot my phone on the boat. Can you guys go get it for me?”
Ash is panicking because she is trying to get drinks and stuff ready to go out on the boat thinking we needed to get on the boat soon to watch fireworks, having no idea the boat is fully decorated for us. Being the timely person she is, she delegates duties, “You go get the phone, I’ll get the drinks and stuff ready!” She thought she was being smart, which normally would be a good idea. My mom give me this, oh shit! look. I say, “Nope! Come with me!” and grab Ashlee’s arm to go find my mom’s phone.
I take her down to the boat, everyone sneaking behind us to come watch. She looks at the boat as we get to it and freezes, she looks at me and goes,” … What the hell!!” She assumed it was set up for a special date, but not a proposal!
There were flower petals everywhere, candle lights, two champagne flutes, a bottle of champagne and a message in a bottle. I have her uncork the glass bottle and read the message out loud.
As she finishes, I look her in the eyes and tell her, “when I said forever and a day, I meant it. And now I want you to truly understand how deeply I feel for you by starting our forever with me right now.“ I get down on one knee and she stands up so fast that she almost knocks over the table. She freezes, just staring at me in shock, not realizing everyone behind me waiting for her to answer. She says YES with a huge smile and tears in her eyes and all of the sudden there’s this loud cheering from people yelling at the top of their lungs and clapping. All sorts of people all around just a hooting and a hollering. It was so wonderful!!!
Right after that we hop off the boat to share hugs with everyone, pop the bottle of champagne to toast our new chapter in our lives. The sun was setting pretty fast so we all hopped on the boats and grabbed our drinks to top the night off with one of the best firework shows ever. One of the single most incredible weekends of my life. It could not have gone any better!!!
Thank you Robbins Brothers for being such a big part in this whole ordeal!!”
