Location, location, location! That “once tried, always true” saying was crafted for real estate, but it certainly applies to the Wedding World!
Choosing your Wedding Location will be one of the first and most important decisions you make after crossing the threshold into Engagement. Your Wedding Venue will set the tone for your Big Day, it will make a statement about your style, and it will be the chosen backdrop of your once-in-a-lifetime captured memories. One of my privileged jobs as a Wedding Planner is to guide newly engaged couples towards venues that match their needs. Will this venue hold everyone on their guest list? Does this venue fit within their Wedding budget? In addition to the obvious location parameters, there are some additional criteria one should consider in their search for the perfect Wedding Location:
• STYLE & FEEL. The possibilities are endless. Are you a beach, barn, garden, historical landmark, library, luxury resort, mountaintop, museum, open field, private residence, OR winery type-of-Bride??
• DATE & SEASON. The Date & Season you choose [Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter] has the power to help create or enhance your theme. It can also impact your venue choice. When Venue shopping, it is wise to inquire whether the venue changes with the Seasons. Will the hills be green or the lavender in bloom that time of year? Will local traffic and parking be a nightmare at this popular Summer beach destination? Will your Hotel or Resort decorate for the Holidays? I personally appreciate when Wedding Venues offer photo galleries, depicting Weddings held during the different Seasons like Ponte Family Estate Winery in Temecula, California.

Although Winter Weddings might be less common, please don’t let that deter you as they have been some of the most beautiful, romantic and unique that I’ve seen! Make the most of your Winter Wedding by choosing the Wedding Venue right for you! Here are some of my favorite selections:
1. Show off your love for skiing at Utah’s Sundance Resort. Make sure to ride the ski lift for a fun photo op on the slopes!
2. There’s nothing like the majestic beauty of Colorado! Less than two hours from Denver, you’ll find Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa which can accommodate up to 160 guests and offers individually decorated log cabins for your guest’s accommodations.
3. On a rooftop in Manhattan, 620 Loft & Garden has sweeping views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue AND it overlooks the Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink and the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree – the perfect setting for a holiday celebration! This somewhat unconventional New York venue is a gem!
4. Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, California, also tops my list as a Winter Venue. Sure, it’s on the beach – but they have the space to hold the Ceremony in their Colannade Ballroom then flawlessly flip that same space into the Reception while guests enjoy the spacious Foyer. With two story high ceilings, grand staircases, and gorgeous lighting, this is a fairytale location. I even love their blue water goblets.
5. Four Seasons Santa Barbara is a luxury, oceanfront hotel that boasts of Spanish Colonial architecture. The Biltmore, as it’s better known, has multiple indoor options to meet your off-season needs. And must take advantage of the romantic fireplace, adorning the mantel –and the entire space- with candles.
