So you’re ready to pop the big question? Well…almost. There is still some planning you need to do, right? We understand. The good news is that you chose a great time of year to propose to your true love. Here is a list of the 6 most important tips to remember when planning your proposal this holiday season.
- Bare necessities – By now you may have already found the ring of your sweetheart’s dreams, or perhaps you are still looking around. Either way, you can wipe the sweat off of your forehead. You have taken the first step and are well on your way to proposing to your sweetie. If you’ve had the chance to get the in-laws blessing that’s awesome. You can check this off of your list as well. Now it’s time to enjoy the planning process and make it as special as possible.
- Choose your proposal setting – Ambiance is key. Years from now when you and she are telling everyone about your proposal, the place and setting will usually be the first thing out of your mouths. Playing off personalities and using them to decide on the proposal setting is important. If she is classy, fountains are a great idea. If she is artsy and loves the outdoors, maybe a solo walk on the train tracks would be your route. Whenever possible, include family, friends and pets. The more the ‘Merrier’!
We had a guest who proposed in Klyde Warren Park. This park is built over an interstate in the heart of downtown Dallas, with skyscrapers viewable from all directions. He went into the grass of the park, got on one knee and she said yes, all while her family was watching from the patio of a nearby restaurant. He planned the proposal and the proposal party without her knowing. The surprise was worth it; everyone was able to celebrate together! - What to say – You can rehearse time and time again in the mirror, but keep in mind what will have the greatest impact is speaking directly from the heart. I had a guest who proposed on the anniversary of their first date at the same location. Fittingly, his proposal was about creating memories for a lifetime. “This place is symbolic of the first day of the rest of my life. I can only imagine my world by growing old next to you. Will you take my hand and this ring, so we can begin the journey of our lives?” Keep it short, sweet and meaningful.
- Incorporate the festive holiday season – The holiday season makes for amazing proposals. Most of your perfect settings will already be decorated for the holidays, which will create incredible photo opportunities. If any family, friends or pets are involved, they will make a great addition to any pictures and add to the spirit of the holidays.
- Remember to get on one knee! – In the Medieval period, the knight would bend on one knee to show humbleness and surrender his body, mind and soul to the person in front of him. Now, this is the worldwide symbol of professing your proposal for marriage. Of all of the tips and suggestions, this might be the most important one not to forget.
- Embrace the moment – You are creating one of the happiest moments you will ever share together. Unlike last Sunday’s football game, fumbles are accepted here. They will give the proposal more character and give you a story to tell and laugh about later. Do not sweat the small stuff. Enjoy this romantic milestone together.
To sum all of this up, your proposal is about building your lives together. Make it unique and personal, have fun and love each other. It can be that simple.
