10 Things Every Wife Wants To Hear

Although we all know the common phrase that actions speak louder than words, oftentimes words really go a long way toward making our partners feel truly loved. This is especially true for wives, many of whom really do crave vocal devotion from their partners.

But it’s got to be legit: Most women aren’t into pure lip service—sweet sayings with little meaning behind them. We do, however, really appreciate heartfelt comments from our partners. What does your other half really want to hear from you? Here are 10 things that always make us melt.

10 things every wife wants to hear

  1. I love you. After you’ve been married for some time, it’s easy to let these three little words become an afterthought. Always say them with meaning and purpose—making eye contact is a big bonus—to show your wife that she still has your heart.
  2. You’re pretty. It’s not rocket science, folks. Tell your wife that she’s beautiful. Every. Single. Day.
  3. Let me pick the restaurant tonight. Maybe it’s just me, but I love it when my husband offers to determine our date night plans. The old “wherever you want to go” response gets a little old—and often feels like a burden, to be honest.
  4. I’ll do the dishes. Taking over household tasks that your wife normally does can be a huge relief after a long day. And she’ll more than likely return the favor, by letting you off the hook for something you usually do around the house the next time you’re totally beat.
  5. How about a massage? On a similar note, sometimes all your wife needs is some relaxation in order to recharge and be the amazing person she is. Plus, some nights, we just won’t want the pressure of being sexy.
  6. You’re a great mom. If you have children, telling your wife that she’s doing a great job is critical to making her feel like she’s got a handle on the whole motherhood thing. Being a mom is hard work and lots of women constantly question themselves—give her confidence with your cheerleading.
  7. Could you explain [insert complex topic here] to me? Many of us ladies have heard our fair share of “man-splaining”–so we appreciate it when our partners not only think we’re smart but when they ask us to share our expertise.
  8. I value your opinion. We love being your sounding board and helping you through complex decision making. Showing your partner that you’re in it together, whatever the situation is, strengthens your bond on a different level.
  9. I’d love to have your mom stay with us. A lot of women end up becoming caregivers to their parents later in life, especially so in certain cultures. Warmly welcoming aging parents takes added pressure and anxiety off women, allowing us to balance family obligations without feeling guilty.
  10. You’re the only one for me. As years pass and yet another timeless celebrity couple calls it quits, it’s easy to worry about the state of your union. Many women start asking themselves tough questions like…Is he still happy he married me? Will we last? Does he fantasize about other women? Ease your wife’s worries by firmly telling her that she’s your one and only. Even if you think she already knows it, these words mean everything.

Of course, there are certain things guys love to hear, too! Read the 10 things he wants you to say right here.
