For their first date Daryl took Cris to a live Butterfly Pavilion at the Natural History Museum. So sweet.

How did you two meet? (In Daryl’s words)
In 2010, my friend Melissa (whom I dated when we were 13 years old) invited Cris and me to a 4th of July party. Cris was there on a date with another guy. That date wasn’t going well for him. After she sent him home, Cris and I started talking. One thing led to another, we exchanged numbers and we went on our first date that next weekend. Cris LOVES butterflies and roses, so our first date was to see the live Butterfly Pavilion at the Natural History Museum and the Rose Garden at the California Science Museum across the quad.
How did you propose?
Every year we go to Vegas for Cris’ birthday (June 17). For this trip we had several activities planned, including the Tournament of Kings dinner and show at Excalibur Hotel & Casino on the night we arrived (June 15). When you walk into the casino on the main floor before heading down to the theater, there is a photo concession stand where scantily clad models invite you to stand with them in playful poses. After they went through their routine, I asked if we could do one more pose. I snaked the ring out of my pocket, dropped to my knee and asked Cris to marry me. The model you see in the background of the “on my knee” photo and the photographer had no idea I was going to do this. The model’s candid reaction is obvious excitement and joy and the photographer just kept snapping shots. We were the first people anyone could remember EVER using their service to capture a wedding proposal. After she said yes and I placed the ring on her finger we went down to the theater for dinner and the show where they announced our engagement to the entire arena.
What does she love most about the engagement ring?
As you may have guessed from the description of our first date, it was no accident that the ring I chose for Cris is butterfly-themed. I spent several long weeks searching for a suitable ring before finding this one on the Robbins Brothers website. Once I found it, that was it. I knew it was the perfect ring for her. I was almost shattered when I learned that it was from the 2012 Spring Collection and no longer available in stores. When Lori Harris from the Ring Center explained that I could special order it from a manufacturing plant in China I was overjoyed despite it being Chinese New Year and there would be a bit of a delay. We love that this ring looks like a butterfly. It is a perfect choice for Cris who loves butterflies so much.
