How To Include Dad On Your Wedding Day

My Dad has always put his family’s needs before himself. His jeans could be majorly torn, but if I requested a new cheer uniform, his princess came first. It is because of the sacrifices he has made that has given me the life I have today.

When I started dating, I knew that it would be difficult to find a man to earn his respect. But somehow, I managed to persevere. Now that my wedding is fast approaching (eek), I’ve given much thought on how I’d like to pay tribute to the man who has supported me from day one. Because when you have a Father (or Father-like figure) like this, you want to go the extra mile to make them feel special on your big day.

Fortunately, I have compiled a list of how to do just that. Get inspired and steal an idea that jumps out at you.

First Look

More and more brides are going beyond the norm and finding time to include a special moment with their Father. Schedule this before the first look with your partner, at a distinct location. Be sure to wear waterproof mascara, have tissues handy, and prepare for the waterworks.

Give him a personalized gift

It is a tradition to give your parents a gift on the day of the wedding. Take it a step further and add a personal touch. I recommend a stylish ring with a heartfelt engraving or inside joke. He’ll appreciate how much thought you put into it.

Ask him to officiate

What better way to make him feel included by asking him to present you as man and wife? If he knows your relationship, he can speak to who you are as a couple which will make for a personalized ceremony. Besides, he will still have the honor to walk you down the aisle.

Ask him to sing with the band

This idea is not for every Dad. If your papa can’t sing a tune to save his life, please skip this. But if he enjoys Saturday night karaoke as much as you, he’ll love it! Just be sure to approve the song before he gets on stage (for both of your sake).

Write him a special note

Sometimes it’s hard to get the words to express just how your Father has impacted your life. In this case, write him a special note or card and hide it in his jacket or give it to him before the ceremony. Words of affirmation are the perfect way to say “thank you” to the first man you ever loved.
