What’s the Difference Between a Bangle and a Bracelet?
Bangles are a type of bracelet that can be rigid or flexible—while designed to maintain their unmistakable shape and form.
- Hinge bangles have clasps and hinges that make them easy to take on and off while providing confidence that they’ll stay firmly on your wrist. Some hinge bangles have a three-step locking mechanism for extra security.
- Flexi-bangles have an interior steel wire, which keeps them round but flexible (versus a traditional rigid bangle).
- Rigid bangles are a complete circle, oval, or square that you put on by sliding your hand through.
- Cuffs are solid bangles with openings that you can slide onto your wrist

How many bangles should I wear and how should I stack them?
For added flair, stack multiple bangles of different styles together. Michelle Obama’s inaugural look is great inspiration for stacking diamond bangles and showing off your unique sparkle and shine.

- Mix different colors. We carry beautiful bangles in white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold
- Mix different widths. Combine a thick band with a thin band—or stack several thin bands together
- Add sparkle. Add a diamond bangle bracelet for glimmer and glam
- Stack as many bangles as you want. There’s no limit when it comes to bangle style. As long as you’re comfortable, you haven’t added too many!
- Wear bangles on one wrist or both. Try an asymmetrical look and add a different number of bangles to each wrist.
Find Your Bangle Size
To find your wrist size, use a flexible measuring tape (such as tailor’s tape) to measure your wrist circumference (just above the wrist bone). If you don’t have a flexible measuring tape, you can find one online and print it or use a piece of paper and then measure it with a regular ruler.
Knowing your wrist size helps you understand how loose the bangle will be on your wrist. Bangles that are ½ to 1 inch larger in diameter than your wrist are often the most comfortable. You can also stop by any Robbins Brothers store to try on different styles and sizes—until you find your perfect fit and look (many designers offer small, medium, and large bangles).
If the bangle has a hinge or opening, you can place the bangle over your wrist and close the top. For instance, the Memoire bangle bracelet shown above has a hinged opening:
This Shy Creation bangle bracelet has an opening that lets you to slip the bangle over your wrist:
If the bangle is solid and doesn’t have an opening, you’ll need to measure your hand size as well. To do this, use your flexible measuring tape (or print out) to measure the circumference of your hand around the knuckles (you can fold your thumb into your palm so it’s the shape it would be as you put the bangle on).
Our standard Memoire bangles fit wrists from 6.75 to 7.5 inches, and we can even special order smaller or larger sizes.
