Ready to propose? Take a deep breath, and read on.
Paparazzi Proposals has helped plan and photograph thousands of marriage proposals across major cities, nationwide. So, as established proposal experts in the industry, and having helped with and photographed hundreds of proposals, we decided to share a little bit of advice all guys should be aware of before their big moment.
Ask Your Partner’s Family Member for Permission
Show your partner that you care by asking for a blessing from a family member whom they look up to. Whether it’s a parent, sibling, or grandparent, asking the family for permission includes them in your plans and shows respect.

Practice Makes Perfect
One thing you can’t guarantee is that the moment you drop to one knee everything will run smoothly. Select which pants you plan to wear well in advance (no skinny jeans!), and test out which pocket works best to store your ring box in–so you’re able to easily access it when you’re down on one knee. Think about what you’ll say, even if it’s a simple “I love you, will you marry me?” So that when the time comes, you’ll have the words to describe how you feel.
Have A Back Up Plan
The chances that your proposal will unfold precisely as you pictured it are low– but don’t worry! When the inevitable happens, keep your cool and go for Plan B. Your proposal planner can help you figure out what to do if something like weather or timing may be an issue. And remember, what matters most is that you are asking the love of your life for their hand in marriage! Once they hear those words and see the engagement ring, everything else will fade in the background.
A last minute blizzard didn’t stop Jeff from proposing to girlfriend. Love trumped the weather.
How Will You Share the Story
Take into consideration how you’re going to share the news. But remember, this is a special moment between the two of you, and one of the few moments that will be just yours to share. Take a moment to revel in your new engagement and share a toast before you both reach for your phones for a selfie. Better yet, have a professional proposal photographer capture it all so that the two of you can enjoy your engagement without
stressing about taking photos.
Prepare for their Reaction
After planning and photographing over one hundred proposals, we can tell you that her
immediate reaction is often one of total surprise! Don’t worry if it takes her a minute or
two to respond, or even if she’s so happily overwhelmed that she turns around and takes a
few steps away from you before saying, “YES!” It will take a few seconds for your
partner to process what is happening. And don’t expect a reaction, whether it’s tears or
laughing uncontrollably, everyone expresses happiness differently.
