Dress for Success Dazzles with Benefit

PinterestFacebook

July 2012 by LILIT BARSEGYAN of Yerevan

The Robbins Brothers store in Glendale, Calif. along with designer Simon G. hosted a Blingin’ Try-On Party for bloggers, journalists and social networkers to benefit the local West Hollywood chapter Dress for Success last week.

As an international non-profit organization, Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and other career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

My evening began with cocktails provided by Noor and decadent desserts from Cake Moments, which unfortunately, were too enticing to pass up on. Mingling through the crowd, I finally made my way towards Nellie Kim, Development Manager for Dress for Success. Kim was a burst of energy and a rather inspirational figure as a representative for the organization. She explained how the programs they have established offer women continuing support as they successfully transition into the workforce. With over 120 affiliates in more than 10 countries, Dress for Success is making a difference in women’s lives. Through various programs incorporated within the organization, they create an opportunity for their clients to plan for their future by promoting confidence and professionalism, Kim said.

The concept is brilliant, yet simple: a client is provided appropriate attire for an interview and after she finds a job, she returns for additional clothing, providing her with a foundation for a professional wardrobe.

Robbins Brothers, the engagement ring store, was a fantastic host as Dress for Success received several donations. A few lucky attendees, including myself, took home gorgeous pieces won through a raffle and each guest received a glammed-out gift bags before heading out.

Empowering women one suit at a time, a simple contribution for a worthy cause can go a long way.

The Robbins Brothers in Glendale is accepting donations of neatly worn suits and handbags. Donations can be dropped off during business hours. To learn more about Dress for Success including how to make a donation, visit DressForSuccess.org.
