Eco-Friendly Wedding Idea: Bridal Brooch Bouquets

Bridal Brooch Bouquet - Blue Petyl, San Diego

I’m a huge fan of fresh flowers and firmly believe that every wedding needs something lovely and fragrant to set the mood for the ceremony and reception. But I also feel that brides need to explore ways to reduce their personal carbon footprint when it comes to the Big Day. The Green Bride Guide offers some great tips on composting centerpieces, and several wedding planners now decorate the reception tables with elegant fruit displays that guests can take home and enjoy. You could even set mini-rose trees or hydrangeas at each table and then plan them in your yard after the wedding.

My dear friend Jen in Orange County is planning a vintage-themed wedding and shared her Pinterest inspiration boards with all the unique ideas she’s gathered. My favorite is her bridal bouquet that she’s creating with heirloom brooches collected from her mother, grandmother and aunts, as well as lucky finds at flea markets and garage sales. Her brilliant brooch bouquet is beautiful, eco-friendly and sparkles just as much as her engagement ring and I love that it will be a memento from her wedding that she’ll be able to pass down to her daughter.

Love the thought of your own brooch bouquet but don’t have the time, or the collection of family brooches, to create your own? A creative husband and wife team in San Diego started Blue Petyl bouquets and list over 75 designs to choose from on their website. They also take custom orders, and their prices are comparable to what you’d pay for a bouquet that lasts just for the day. My favorite is the vibrant purple-hued bouquet pictured above – simply stunning against the white bridal gown.

We’d love to see your brooch bouquets! Please add your pics in the comment section and we’ll be sure to add to our Pinterest inspiration board.
