Does your left hand hurt? Are you smiling from ear to ear? That post engagement feeling is pretty magical, isn’t it?

Once you’ve shared the news with your VIPs, gotten a mani and celebrated with your fiancé, there are a few important tasks that you should complete right after you get engaged. Here are 5 key things you should check off your list immediately following the, “Yes!”

Get Your Ring Insured

Your ring is one of the most prized possessions you will ever own, which is why you need to have it insured. Obviously, nothing will ever replace the sentimental value it holds, but at least if the worst did occur and it went missing, you’ll go to bed with peace of mind knowing you’ll have it replaced. Do note that you will need an appraisal to have it insured, so it’s best to contact an insurance broker to see what paperwork is required. And if you have renters/homeowner’s insurance, you may be able to add the ring to your existing policy. Moral of the story; call your broker pronto.

Have Your Ring Fitted

If you’re not accustomed to wearing a ring, you may not your proper ring size. This is where we come in. We will professionally measure your finger and can size it if necessary. If for whatever reason you don’t want to size it, but it fits a bit loose or it spins on your finger, we are able to add sizing balls or a sizing bar (made out of the same metal) to keep it upright. Whatever the scenario, it’s best to let the engagement experts take a look and make a recommendation accordingly.

Stop and Smell the Roses

Yes, stop and enjoy the moment. Friends and family will bombard you with thousands of questions, “Did you set a date? When are you having kids? Are you wearing white?” Ha! Ok, they may not be that invasive, but they will want to know about your plans because they love you. Take a deep breath and enjoy this monumental time in your life. Pretty soon you’ll be married and you’ll wish you can do it all over again.

Begin the Wedding Band Search

It’s never too early to begin thinking of what wedding band you’d like to pair with your engagement ring. To give you an idea, it takes roughly 6-8 weeks to special order a ring and I recommend you give yourself 2 additional months to allow for quality control issues or shipping delays. To gather some inspiration now, peruse wedding bands on our website.

Begin a Workout Regime

Wedding planning is stressful. Even for those of you who pride on being easy-going, it’s not always rainbows and unicorns. You’ll need to incorporate some sort of physical activity to keep you from sleepless nights or stress derived acne (it’s a real thing!). Try joining Class Plass to find a type of workout you enjoy, or take up running or hiking. Your body and mind will thank you.
