How excited were we to help producers at Jimmy Kimmel Live plan and execute the show’s very first on-air surprise marriage proposal?! Very. But first we had to find the perfect couple. After months of searching, we finally discovered David, a self-described nerd next door, self-starter and overall a hopeless romantic. He tried everything from dozens of horrible blind dates to having his coworkers create a Match.com and eHarmony profile for him.

Finally, David’s coworker Sarah introduced him to Sandra (Sarah’s younger cousin) who had just moved back to SoCal in 2011. David’s first attempt to ask Sandra out via Facebook failed miserably. Two months and several attempts later, David finally got Sandra to agree on a first date.

That began a one year on-again/off-again courtship, after which Sandra succumbed to his “bad jokes” and persistence. Fast forward to two years later, much of it long distance as Sandra earns her MBA in Austin, TX. The two talked seriously about marriage and David felt it was time to pull the trigger in a BIG way. That he did!
