Men Want Their Own Engagement Rings

RAPAPORT… The Steve Elliott Marketing Research agency conducted a survey on marriage proposals for jewelry retailer Robbins Brothers and found that 80 percent of respondents considered ”the ring” to seal the deal. Other findings revealed that, while more than half of men admit to getting married for old fashioned love as opposed to pressure or other reasons, more than 60 percent wanted to be told and shown they are loved, too. Two-thirds of the male respondents were open to wearing an engagement ring made for men.
More men than women believed the marriage proposal needs to be a surprise, with more than half of respondents accepting of an electronic proposal. Nonetheless, nearly 75 percent preferred a quiet, intimate dinner for two as the ideal setting to pop the question. Two out of three respondents surveyed would allow their proposal to be recorded and posted on YouTube, even one out of 10 said they would propose using the social video website.
Thirty percent of the women and more than 40 percent of men believed it was fine for the woman to be the one to ask the man to marry.
The group concluded that even with a weak U.S. economy, getting married and buying a home were still considered to be a priority amongst half of the survey’s respondents.
