There’s no way to escape it: Every time you turn on the TV, walk into a store or log onto social media, there’s a reminder that Valentine’s Day is coming—and your partner better pull out all the stops to show you just how loved you really are. (Or else, right?!)

With all the constant messages that the day of love is near, it’s natural that you might start forming some expectations around what your significant other might do (or buy!) for you to show you that he or she cares. How could you not?

But, sometimes, expectations can get a bit overblown even when you least expect them to: The more you anticipate your partner’s gestures, the most extravagant and elaborate they may become in your mind… meaning that you could be, totally innocently, setting yourself up for disappointment.

Here’s some crucial advice to keep yourself rooted in reality—that way, you can be happy and grateful for whatever V-Day surprise you do receive.

• Be realistic.
  As best as you can, keep yourself in check when your mind starts to wander toward grandiose Valentine’s Day gestures. Chances are, if your partner doesn’t have any more vacation days left, he or she won’t be whisking you off to Paris for a long weekend. If finances have been tight, you probably won’t be bestowed with diamond earrings. While over-the-top gifts like these are great—okay, really great—they aren’t what this holiday is all about—love! And, as J.Lo taught us many years ago, love don’t cost a thing, right?
• Use past years as your guide.
  If your partner pulls out all the stops for V-Day, chances are he or she is going to be at it again this year, making the holiday super special. But if he or she isn’t so into the day of love, well, you don’t want to get your hopes up thinking that this will be the year for something over-the-top. Some people are just not into Valentine’s Day and if your partner is one of them, that’s okay! This sentiment doesn’t have anything to do with how much he or she cares about you.
• Don’t read into things too much.
  Resist the urge to look for meaning into things that may not have significance—like, if your partner leaves a magazine open on the coffee table and the pages just happen to display a jewelry advertisement. It’s never fun to psych yourself out over something that may or may not come to fruition.
• Be direct about your desires.
  If there’s something you want, or want to do, for Valentine’s Day, by all means, tell your partner! He or she will be thrilled to get some ideas of what might make you feel special rather than just having to guess. Romantic surprises are great but real intimacy comes from having the type of relationship where you can be real with each other about what you want and need.
• Take social media posts with a grain of salt.
  You know that the second you log into Facebook on February 14th you’re going to be bombarded with photos of flowers sent to friends’ offices by their significant others, selfies featuring new bling and pictures of home cooked candlelit dinners. But remember that you have no idea what the story is surrounding these images: Maybe that friend who received a dozen roses really got into a huge fight with her boyfriend the night before. Perhaps the one brandishing the new tennis bracelet actually picked out the jewelry herself. You really never know the inside story when it comes to other people’s relationships so don’t work yourself up comparing your situation to theirs.

  2. Take a ferry ride from Seattle to Brainbridge Island. Enjoy coffee on board, explore Bainbridge and see our beautiful city from a different view.
  3. Weather permitting, take a walk through Sculpture Park. The sculptures are unique and the view cannot be beat! You can see the city, the Great Wheel, the Space Needle etc. Plus it’s the perfect atmosphere for cuddling.
  4. Enjoy a delicious Italian dinner at Serafina, located on Eastlake. The menu is fresh, local and offers a variety of different pasta dishes. Wine pairings are available as well.
  5. Explore the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit located next to the Space Needle. After you can dine at the Tilikum Place Cafe with a modern European-inspired menu. Their brunch is incredible too. Food first, fireworks next (wink).

  If food is the way to a man’s heart, then music, a great voice and a million dollar smile is surely the way to a woman’s heart (wink)! One of our pre-Valentine’s surprise marriage proposals with KTLA 5 during Love & Romance Week took place aboard The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. This engagement gets a perfect score of 10 in the romance department. The charming Steve Ledesma from Burbank decided to sing his proposal to his gorgeous girlfriend Jennifer Rodriguez, who flew into town last night from Texas just to be with her main man! The two have maintained a long distance relationship and little did she know that today’s surprise would change her life forever.

  What stands out to me the most is when he said, “I love you in this lifetime, I’ve loved you in lifetimes before, and I’ll love you in the next.” WOW. See what I mean?!…Romance at its finest! Take a look at this heartfelt moment.

  After gazing at the vintage engagement ring he presented her with, she said YES! So happy for Jennifer and Steve & all of our wonderful couples across the states of California, Texas and Washington who we helped take #OffTheMarket during the season of Love.

  Love & Romance Week is still in full force on Day 4 as we continue to create monumental memories. Today we had the pleasure of witnessing Devan Hussey, a Crossfit Coach, drop to his knee and present a timeless ¾ carat diamond to his girlfriend, Kaitlin Arenas, a Barista at Starbucks. Kaitlin had been taken to Molinos, a trendy coffee shop in downtown Riverside by her sister, Kristen, who was in on the surprise. Watch as the Love Team kidnaps Kaitlin to deliver her to the surprise of her life.

  The couple met 10 months ago on Tinder and according to Devan, he knew she was the one within the first month of dating. As a matter of fact, it only took them 9 months to make their love story official by special ordering a stunning, vintage engagement ring by Coast Diamond. They were told by Tracey Garcia, Design Specialist at the Riverside store, that it would take 8 weeks to have her ring custom made. Devan, not wanting to wait had her diamond placed into a solitaire mounting so he could seal the deal right away!

  

  Oh, and what good is a proposal without a celebration? They were also given a handful of goodies to commemorate their engagement including a mouth-watering dinner at Flemings, box of succulent chocolates from Chuao Chocolatier, and an engagement photo session by Paparazzi Proposals. The Love Team would like to thank Molinos Coffee for allowing us to hijack their shop and of course, the happy couple for choosing us to share in their special moment.

  It’s Day 2 of Robbins Brothers’ Annual Love & Romance Week and we’re still whisking couples #OffTheMarket! Cupid’s arrow landed in Santa Fe Springs today when Phillip and the Robbins Brothers Love Team ambushed GlasPro, a manufacturer of high-quality structural and architectural design glass, to surprise his girlfriend Alexis with a romantic proposal while at work. Our beautiful couple started their love story over a year ago and entered a new chapter when Phillip dropped to a knee, spoke his heart and locked it down with a stunning platinum engagement ring from Kirk Kara.

  

  Watch as Phillip and the Love Team turn up for LOVE and deliver Alexis a surprise of a lifetime.

  But wait there’s more, Phillip and Alexis also received a beautiful steak dinner from Flemings Prime Steakhouse, a frisky box of chocolate from Chuao Chocolatier’s Aphrodisiac Heart Bonbon collection, and an impromptu engagement photo session provided by Paparazzi Proposals.
