As holiday proposals go, this time of year has a magical quality. Whether it’s the twinkling lights against the snow or cuddling with your loved one sipping hot chocolate, for many it makes sense to add to the romantic feels with a holiday proposal.

Cosmopolitan’s recently published article 13 Ways to Plan the Best Christmas Proposal Ever suggests some key options for a successful holiday proposal. Here are some of our favorites that will help you along the way.

1) Do not wait until the last minute to avoid rush fees, obtain access to more inventory and allow you to special order your engagement ring which can take up to six weeks. Dan Decker, guest support manager at Robbins Brothers, says the primary reason why you’d need more time is for customization of the ring; switching the metal type, ordering a specific size, etc. Along with this sound advice, our expert team of engagement experts is here to help you through a shortened planning window along with some proposal planning checklists to keep you on task.

2) Save some money for resizing that ring! More often than not, Dan says the ring you chose will need to be adjusted, altered, or customized. Be sure to set some of your budget aside to alter that brilliant engagement ring after the holiday proposal if needed.

It’s time to kick off the holidays and you know what that means. Engagement Season! About 39% of proposals happen during November thru February! Thanksgiving is the first big family get-together and you may have been hoping for a proposal to happen already. So, how can you tell if your sweetheart is going to propose on Thanksgiving? Read on for the clues.

He’s suggesting that both of your families get together for Thanksgiving dinner. That’s a huge sign that something special may happen on Thanksgiving day, especially if he’s taking the planning into his own hands.

He’s prying into Thanksgiving plans. Is he getting nosy and asking what exactly is happening at the Thanksgiving Dinner? Most homes will be breaking out the roasted turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, but some families have a different cultural meal. He may be trying to get a game plan going by asking, “What are we going to have?” “What time are we going over?” “Who exactly is going to be there” “Whose house are we going to?”.

He’s insistent that you two go see the Thanksgiving Parade. Many people love attending the local Thanksgiving Day parade or some other local morning festivities. If this is something you two have never done before and is coming out of left field, he may be planning something special for this particular outing.

If he’s getting chummy with your family…behind your back. He may be getting the Thanksgiving dinner details from your family if you’re not giving it up or if you don’t have the answers he’s looking for. Independence Day festivities are the best when you combine romance and fireworks. After all, the 4th of July is the perfect holiday to usher in a sexy summer of love! As we celebrate the occasion, check out three of our favorite sweet marriage proposal videos.

The simplicity of this video is what I love about this marriage proposal. The romantic silhouette of him on bended knee and the bright popping fireworks is pretty romantic in its simple way. And when she leans in for a kiss to signify “yes”–it’s just too cute. Then the fade out with the end of the fireworks. I just love this proposal!

This guy decided to propose to his girlfriend by shouting it over the rooftops on 4th of July! Great concept and adorable execution, but I have to suggest other people not do this! Imagine if she fainted… lost her footing? Or if she jumped up and down? When you’re being asked to marry the love of your life, we suggest you stay away from high ledges and slippery slopes. Cute proposal, though!

Finally, I had to include a proposal video that involved the good old American tradition: baseball!! A man decides to propose to his girlfriend on the field, which is where they had their second date, a year prior on 4th of July! Aww.

How did you two meet? (In Dione’s Words)
Lisa and I met in college while both attending San Diego State University.

How did you propose?
I took Lisa to the Island of Kauai for a few days. On the second day I rented a helicopter just for the 2 of us and got a tour of the entire island. It then landed at the Jurassic Falls which is a famous waterfall that was featured in the movie Jurassic Park. We both stood in front of this beautiful and iconic waterfall and when the moment was right I got down on one knee after saying a few kind words.

What does she love most about her engagement ring?
She loves the personal touch that I incorporated. I put emerald stones on the sides to honor her grandmother and mother who both have emeralds in their ring. Of course she loves that there is a big rock on her finger but the emeralds are very symbolic and meaningful.

How was your shopping experience? Stressful?
To be honest when I first walked in my plan was to just get an idea and then shop around at other stores to compare. The minute I walked in Nairi at the Glendale store made me feel very comfortable and she was very helpful throughout the process. After looking around for a while I finally set eyes on the perfect ring. Once we put the set together I knew that was the one. I didn’t need to go to another store to compare or even see if there was anything else out there. The special treatment I received and great experience made this process pain free. We will be going back for wedding bands as we get closer to our wedding date.

How did you two meet? (In Bernard’s Words)
I met S’Leslie on September 1st 2012. I never shared this with her but, starting back when I first laid my eyes on her at a stoplight coming from my fraternity social event, I looked to the right of me into a stranger’s car and saw an amazingly beautiful glow that left a lasting memory. At that point I had no clue that what we have now would or could have amounted to her being my wife. Ironically, when we exchanged numbers it was on the basis of sharing with her and her cousin the address to where the after event would be held. We had no intentions on dating each other at all. A boredom text from her a week later led to a phone conversation, which led to a date, which led to us eventually falling in love with each other.

How did he propose? (In S’Leslie Words)
For my birthday, Bernard took me to New York City to celebrate. To start the day off we went to Central Park to volunteer to pick up trash, so I thought. I was far from happy about that. However, after walking around for a while we reached Bow Bridge, which is known to be one of the most romantic landmarks in the park. We found a seat and began talking about our future together as we waited for his friend and “girlfriend,” which turned out to be a photographer. When they arrived Bernard asked them to take a photo of us on the bridge. As I am waiting for him to grab the camera, he began to tell me how much I meant to him while taking the ring out of his bag. Once I saw the box I completely froze with the biggest smile on my face. He continued talking but I was so in shock that I didn’t understand what he was saying until he went down on one knee and said “S’Leslie Reanyl Bell will you marry me?” It was finally my part so with the same big smile on my face I said YES!!!

What do you love most about your engagement ring?
I love the intricate detail the most. It’s absolutely stunning!

How did you two meet?
We met in Costa Rica in 1995. We were both young teenagers and immediately fell in love. After 2 years she moved back to USA and I stayed behind. We lost connection and each went on with our lives. I moved to CA a couple of years after our breakup. Last year in March of 2012, 14+ years later, we met up again in Costa Rica. We decided to be together from that moment on and this time forever.

How did you propose?
First I surprised her by going skydiving. As she was getting ready to land I placed a sign on the ground which she read before she touched ground. Find here a link to two videos. One video is our engagement pictures and the other our engagement video from start to finish. They’re short films and shouldn’t take up much of your time. I hope you enjoy our skydiving marriage proposal as much as we do.

What do you love most about your engagement ring?
I love the elegant and traditional look of the ring. It reminds me of a ring my father gave my mother once many years ago. Special thanks to Lori Harris in Robbins Brothers’ Ring Center for helping me pick it out.
