Another fun evening of Diamonds and Desserts! This time, in Houston, Texas! Our Robbins Brothers Houston store hosted an evening of stunning bridal gowns, dazzling diamond jewelry, delicious desserts and bubbly champagne! We invited select few bloggers, fashion editors and wedding professionals to get a sneak peek at the newest collection of DAO Chloe DAO bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, designed by Chloe Dao.

Guests snacked on delicious mini-cupcakes, cookies and tasty champagne!

The evening’s honoree was Girls Inc., where all handbags and accessories were donated to benefit young girls in their program. Girls Inc. provides more than 138,000 girls across the U.S. and Canada with life-changing experiences and real solutions to the unique issues girls face.  This specially designed program provides girls the right tools and support to succeed, including trained professionals who mentor and guide them in a safe, girls-only environment.

A lovely young lady modeling one of Chloe Dao’s purple bridesmaids gowns is even a member of Girls Inc.

They had us at the invitation’s “Diamonds and Desserts.” But Robbins Brothers’ fashion blogger party went beyond temptations to a worthy cause – Dress for Success Houston.

The booming 15-year-old non-profit has a new location in an easily reached gorgeous building on the inner loop’s Eastside Street. There DFS not only garbs job-ready women referred by 175 local non-profits, but arms them with interview skills and confidence. After gals are hired – as many are – they can join a networking group that offers mentoring, scholarships, financial literacy and even a book club.

Robbins Brothers donated $25 per invitee. We arrived not only bringing handbags, clothes and new hose for the charity, but also to have fun.

And we did. It felt like a pajama party gone uptown as girls tried on door-knocker sized diamonds and sashayed down store-aisles-turned-runways. Hey, if we over indulged in wine spritzers, fudge cake pops and diamond-ring sugar cookies from A Fare Extraordinaire, that’s OK. The treats were delish and a diamond ring fits no matter your size!

If that weren’t enough, we had ringside seats as master jewelers worked their craft nearby, and Robbins held a drawing for three gifts, including gorgeous diamond earrings, sterling silver teardrop pendant and pearl strand bracelet. We all left with gift bags of ring key chains, glitzy nail polish, a rhinestone tennis bracelet and manicure set.

Charming Robbins publicist (and all-important keeper of the jewels) Tracey Lyles led the festivities with co-host Joy Sewing, the Chronicle’s fashion writer. Sewing not only was passionate about the cause, but also bling. She smartly chose a portrait neckline just right to hang gorgeous gems she wore all evening. Alas, Chron’s ShopGirl Cinderella remembered to drop them off before departing!

Also sparkling were Fox 26 anchor Melinda Spaulding Chevalier (just as beautiful as on TV); Drama Scene Magazine editor Dahlia McCutchen (in diamante stilettos to match the baubles!) and hip We Wear Things blogger Melissa “Issa” Chou. Turns out diamonds look just as cute with comic-strip T-shirts as with cocktail dresses.

One astute guest (we’re not saying who!) instagrammed photos of her left hand wearing five fave rings should her beau need ideas!

Memo to moi: Next time, mani first and diamonds second. And to guys: Don’t forget your credit cards!

Fairytales do come true & Robbins Brothers’ engagement consultants have the pleasure of witnessing them on a daily basis! Kris Durel of Houston, TX casually entered the Robbins Brothers/CW 39 Perfect Proposal contest not thinking he’d actually win. He was pleasantly surprised to receive the call letting him know that he won the chance to pick out Cindy’s engagement ring at the new Robbins Brothers location in Baybrook. He was even more excited to partner with the store’s general manager Lori Harris to plan the proposal of a lifetime for his beloved. Then he found out his marriage proposal would air during the hit CW show Gossip Girl. The surprises just don’t stop, right?!

January 12–Nearly two years ago we sadly closed our Houston stores due to the company’s reorganization caused by the recent economic storm. Fast forward to today: With an improved economy and the hard work of all Robbins Brothers employees, we’ve been granted a second chance and so grateful for it. I’m thrilled to announce that we’re returning to the Houston marketplace at the end of this month & excited about it!!! Our Houston Loop store is set to open on Jan. 24.

I must say, we’ve always loved our Houston customers! Just something about that city that makes me very happy. The locals there are extremely polite, enjoy life to the fullest, and know how to host a fun par-tay! Take our ‘Rings & Red’ grand opening back in Sept. 2006 for example. Definitely a night to remember as Project Runway 2 winner Chloe Dao graced us with a dynamic fashion show. That night Houston proved that Hollywood isn’t the only city that knows how to throw a red-carpet affair. The photos bring back so many great memories. As I sit here and reflect, it sure does feel good to be returning to one of the best cities in the U.S.A. See ya soon, Houston!

World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store hosts its first in-store wedding and reception for local couple

Robbins Bros., World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store®, held its first in-store wedding in Houston for a young couple who might otherwise have celebrated the occasion alone and with little fanfare.

On Friday, Aug. 3, Jesse Miller and Tara Rodriguez visited the Robbins Bros. store located near the Galleria area in Houston to purchase wedding rings. Ray Sullins, a sales associate for Robbins Bros, assisted the couple in selecting rings that met their modest budget. After further discussions with Sullins, the couple selected two simple and elegant bands they felt would represent the love that they have for each other just as well as any higher priced rings. The next morning, with this couple on his mind, Sullins called Jesse and Tara to follow-up on their wedding plans. He was surprised to learn that the two planned to get married by a Justice of the Peace that afternoon. Since the couple recently moved to Houston, they had no family or friends to attend the wedding and to help them celebrate the happy occasion.

Sullins, an ordained minister, immediately decided that he could not let this couple get married by themselves. After all, he knew that Robbins Bros. is all about love and romance. He offered to donate his time and services to marry Jesse and Tara and rallied the rest of the staff to help with the ceremony and reception. After further planning, it was decided that the wedding should take place that afternoon inside Robbins Bros.

“I work as a part time salesperson for Robbins Bros, because I love being a part of the romance that comes with this job,” said Sullins. “I felt that our store would be a much better place than the Justice of the Peace to hold the ceremony. We would have plenty of loving and caring witnesses and best of all, we are free.”

At 2:00 p.m. on August 4, Robbins Bros. had its first in-store wedding. General Manager J.D. Dahler walked the beaming bride down the aisle. Etienne Boyd and Kristi Gonzalez, both Robbins Bros. associates, served as best man and maid-of-honor. Robbins Bros. provided the bouquet, rose petals for the aisle, champagne and glasses, and a wedding cake.

“We had a fantastic time and are so grateful to Ray and the folks at Robbins Bros. for making our special day even more special” said Miller. “Tara and I are still amazed at how quickly they pulled together to give us a proper wedding.”
