On Sunday, May 1, 2022, Robbins Brothers, The Engagement Ring Experts, threw the party of the season according to Houston’s most influential. On that day, more than 50 guests adorned in their best Regency-era inspired outfits waltzed into the Robbins Brothers Houston Clearlake/Baybrook location to enjoy a morning filled with all things Bridgerton-themed.

Guests were greeted at the door by general manager Alex Garcia who bore a striking resemblance to The Duke of Hastings. As they entered, guests were taken through a full Bridgerton-inspired experience inside the 7,200 square-foot store, taking photos around the Queen’s throne, customizing their own wispy floral bouquets, enjoying Bridgerton-themed cocktails and breakfast bites, listening to pop music transformed by a local string quartet and more. Guests were invited to try on and play with jewelry, and Robbins Brothers store associates showed off vintage-style engagement rings reminiscent of the Regency-era, along with more modern styles.

“We wanted to do something different, something special that would excite our most loyal guests and also bring attention to the Robbins Brothers brand for those who haven’t shopped with us yet,” said Kris Land, vice president of marketing at Robbins Brothers.

Alex Garcia, general manager of Robbins Brothers Houston Clearlake/Baybrook location said that he was blown away by the immediate excitement and response from guests and store associates alike about the event.

“A Bridgerton-themed brunch proved to be an enticing theme, as we had to stop accepting RSVPs after just four days due to the overwhelming response,” said Garcia. “All of our store associates had a blast shopping for the perfect costumes and getting into character for the event. It was unlike any event we’ve had at our store before, and we can’t wait to do more.”

Since Bridgerton’s swoon-worthy second season premiered on March 25, 2022, the popular show racked up 444.8 million hours. Bridgerton’s first season remains Netflix’s No. 1 English-language TV show, with 625.5 million hours streamed in its first 28 days of release. Smithsonian Magazine recently reported that a big part of the Regency-era TV and streaming popularity is due to our romantic notions of courtship in that time period, and that old-fashioned romance is the most enduring.

Throughout the event, the latest news from Lady Whistledown was shared and five lucky guests randomly won prizes like 14K yellow gold diamond halo earrings (valued at $395) and a 14K rose gold diamond halo pendant (valued at $445). The most exciting giveaway was slated for the best dressed – a vintage inspired $7,000 Poem Platinum Diamond Engagement Ring – which would be gifted to the “diamond of the season.”

The Robbins Brothers event staff voted after the soiree to select the top eight best dressed from all attendees. Voting went live on Instagram and TikTok from Tuesday, May 3 through Friday, May 6. A total of 1,442 votes were collected over four days and the winner was determined between social media results (50%) and event staff rankings (50%). The lucky winner was Cornelia Berrocal of Houston.

“The Robbins Brothers Bridgerton Brunch was the most amazing event I have attended in a long time,” said Janie Rodriguez, a Houston-area influencer who attended the event. “Having the opportunity to get dressed up to celebrate this romantic show and play with diamond jewelry was pure perfection. I don’t know why I get anxious when I shop. Whether it is a department store, a mall or even the grocery store, it stresses me out. Now not everyone is here with me but I would venture to guess that the one place that most guys will agree makes them anxious would be a jewelry store. To add to that stress, we are not talking about your typical jewelry store here, we are talking about an engagement ring store! So what brings on this panic? Well, it could be finding the perfect ring, her giving you too many suggestions (or worse, no suggestions) and of course the biggest of them all, BUDGET. Not to worry, I have a few things to keep in mind as you search for that perfect ring that should minimize the stress.

“So I have found ‘the one’ but how am I ever going to find ‘the ring’?” You know her. It is a bit daunting to walk into a store and see case after case of rings. Before the sweat beads begin to form, take a breath and remind yourself that you know her more than you give yourself credit for. The key is taking the things you love the most about her and translating that into a style. Start by describing her. If she is an old soul who appreciates the details, start looking at Vintage rings. Bold, loud and unique? Start with Modern rings. The best thing to know here is rings are usually described using the same terms you would use to describe your “One.” Focus on her and relax, just talking about your love seems to calm most guys down anyway.

“2 months Salary? or is it 3? Can I actually handle eating Ramen for the next 2 years? Can she?” Overspending is not required. It’s hard not to stress about how much you are “supposed” to spend. Here is where you need to take another Deep breath…and tell yourself that there is no rule. You get to decide how much to spend. Let’s face it, there is absolutely nothing romantic about being broke. Figure out how much you want to spend, and shop based on that budget. Just by knowing where you are comfortable before you shop makes this stress a lot more manageable.

I never really gave thought about diamond engagement rings until I started working at Robbins Brothers, let alone Eco-friendly diamonds. I can’t say that I’m 100% Eco-friendly. Sure, I recycle most of what I can and I try to save water and energy. I don’t drive an electric car, but I’d like to think that I’m pretty Earth-conscious with most of my daily decisions.

I even had a negative idea about lab-created diamonds, as if they were fake diamonds or just knock-offs. However, the more I learned about our e3 Diamond, the more I was intrigued. The e3 diamond is a lab-created diamond that has the same exceptional color, clarity and brilliance as an Earth-mined diamond. It begins with natural carbon, which is the same minerals that make up natural diamonds. It goes under the same growing process as a natural diamond, only sped up so it takes about four days, rather than a billion years. Not only is this diamond an Eco-conscience choice, but it is budget-conscience too! Cultured diamonds typically cost about 30% less than the mined variety with generally the same specs. I gave a hint to my then-boyfriend that I wouldn’t mind having an e3 diamond (hint, hint).

How did you two meet?
We actually met at a bar, but it wasn’t by accident or a random encounter. One of my good friends was Danielle’s roommate in college. She thought we would make a good couple and really wanted us to meet each other. The week before Valentine’s Day 2010, we met at a Brewski’s bar for a few drinks and really just hit if off from there. One of the things she told me that night was how she was going to do an internship at Disney because she was a huge fan of anything Disney. As you will see, that was a huge part of the proposal. A few days after we met, my friend commented on how we were glued to each other that night just talking and getting to know each other. It was funny at the end of the night because I wanted to know when I could see her again but since the next week was Valentine’s Day, it was awkward trying to figure that out.

How did you propose?
We vacationed to Florida for the week of July 4th to visit family in friends in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Last year, we both did internships at Disney and this was our chance to go back and revisit old friends and go to the Disney parks again. I had been planning for a while to propose on this trip as our time at Disney was something special for us, something we shared together. Closer to the end of the trip, I had made dinner reservations at Ohana, a Hawaiian themed restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. I chose this location because it looks out on the castle at Magic Kingdom, you can watch the fireworks from your dinner table, and it has a beach front on the lake that separates the resort from the park. After we ate and watched the fireworks, I took her down to the water to “walk along the beach.” I whispered sweet nothings into her ear before I got down and asked her to marry me. She said Yes! She was not expecting it at all and immediately burst into tears once she realized what was going on. It was very cool that the box had a built in light as the proposal was at nighttime but that didn’t stop the ring from shining beautifully.

Danielle, what do you love most about your engagement ring?
The ring is beautiful. It has everything I wanted….low profile, 3 stoned princess cut with princess cut channel set diamonds. The clarity of the ring really makes it sparkle and shine! It’s stunning and I just love it.
